IDENTITY THEFT: Why it’s nice to have a good insurance agent on your team

This week’s insurance story is about a guy who had his identity stolen.  We’ve all heard a lot about identity theft…and if it’s happened to you  then you already know what a real hassle it is—it can mess up your credit rating, bank accounts, credit cards, etc. etc.
Ben* (*not his real name, of course) was a young college student.  He depended on his car to get him to and from school as well as to and from the job he had to help him pay for school.
And, of course, without insurance coverage, it would have been illegal for Ben to drive his car.
One day, Ben had his identity hacked and stolen- his bank account was completely drained.
Problem was- his monthly insurance payment was automatically set up to come out of that bank account.
Fortunately for Ben, he had some pretty sharp insurance agents (modesty forbids our naming any names)—we were able to contact his carrier, and not only quickly explain the situation, but we also bought Ben some grace time while he put his finances back in order.

If Ben had bought direct, and didn’t have an agent, he still would have been able to solve the problem on his own. Provided, that is, that he was willing to spend a LOT of time figuring out the carrier’s website.
But, with one quick phone call to his agents, we were able to get this part of his life all sorted out for him. Ben had enough to worry about, we were glad we could at least help by taking this one thing off his “to-do” list.
